YOGA NIDRA: A Workshop for Yoga Teachers
Yoga Nidra means “yogic sleep”, and it comes to us from the ancient practice of Nyasa, which means “to place.” Both involve placing awareness on different parts of the body, allowing us to drop below the active mind. With Nyasa as the basis, the founder of the Bihar School of Yoga, Swami Satynanda Saraswati, developed the multi-step process that we know of as Yoga Nidra today, and Richard Miller integrated into it his insights from his psychotherapy background. Dr. Miller’s research with veterans showed that Yoga Nidra significantly reduced their PTSD.
In my four-hour training you will learn about the five stages of Yoga Nidra – what each entails and its effect on the student. You will have the opportunity to practice teach two of the pivotal stages--rotation of consciousness, and the journey. In addition, I will describe how I structure a Yoga Nidra class and how to fine tune it for different populations.
Yoga Nidra is a deeply healing methodology that I experienced first-hand in my yoga teacher training with Joseph LePage. I learned how to teach it both in my 200 hour IYT training and in my 800 hour Integrative Yoga Therapy training. Beth Gibbs, who teaches portions of the advanced IYT training, guided me personally in the finer aspects of teaching Yoga Nidra.
Come learn about this ancient healing technique to augment your yoga teaching as well as to nurture yourself.
